The Swedish-built Hagstrom Concord bass was initially known as the Hagstrom Viking bass; the companion bass model to the Hagstrom Viking guitar. The Concord was short/medium scale, lightweight, and as such very playable, despite lacking the feedback-reducing center body block of the Gibson EB2 / Epiphone Rivoli.

The J-Quads combine low-noise performance with a broad support of the full tonal spectrum, and just a little extra emphasis on mids and lows for when that extra “growl” is needed. They were produced by Hagstrom in Alvdalen, Sweden, between 1969 and 1976; a total of 3493 basses in 14 batches. In America, it was known as the F400N and was Hagstrom's bass companion model to the HIIN (F200N) six string guitar. The model was later renamed HB901 when it was distributed by Ampeg in the mid-70s. This generation have more a powerfull sound with their humbucker pick ups and a more user friendly control layout with two volume and two tone controls and a tree way pick up selector instead of the earlier slide switches with pre-set tone choices.
